Castle Johannisberg near Wiesbaden

The baroque castle Johannisberg is located between Wiesbaden and Rüdesheim in the Rheingau. Built in 1715, it is one of the oldest  wine-growing estates in the world, wine has been cultivated here sinec the year 815.
Butlar – Earl of Fulda was the owner, before it was lost to Napoléon in 1806. In the following years, the castle was under the different administrations of Austria, Prussia and Russia until 1816. Emperor Franz I. spent it to the Earl of Metternich – Winneberg, after which the castle remained in the ownership of the titled familiy.
